Spartans Suffer Heartbreaking Loss to Riverside Warriors

Before the Greenbrier East Spartans varsity basketball team played the Riverside Warriors, ranked 10th in Class AAA, on Thursday night, February 18, the Spartans JV team defeated JV Warriors on a buzzer beater that got the crowd excited and pumped up for the night's premier contest.

Spartans Struggle In Big Atlantic Classic Title Game

Usually, if the Greenbrier East Spartans hit 11 3-pointers in a basketball game, chances are they are going to be on the winning side of the scoreboard. Unfortunately for the Spartans, they fell to the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles 85-57 in the Big Atlantic Championship in Beckley on February 6 in front of a large, hostile crowd.

Lady Spartans Fall to Morgantown in Big Atlantic Classic Title Game

The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans were able to defeat the Capital Cougars in their first game in the Big Atlantic Classic in Beckley on Thursday, February 4, when they held off a late Cougar rally and won 57-49. However, in the championship game on Friday, the Spartans ran into a juggernaut, the number one ranked team in Class AAA, the Morgantown Mohigans.

Spartans Lose Two, Record Now Stands at 9-5

It was a rough weekend for the Greenbrier East Spartans boys' basketball team as they dropped two consecutive games at home. The Spartans dropped a 71-64 decision to the Parkersburg Big Reds on Friday, January 29, and then on Saturday, they suffered a 62-56 decision to the Hampshire Trojans.

Lady Spartans Stay Perfect With Two Wins Over the Weekend

The road to perfection stayed right on course this past weekend, as the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans remained undefeated with victories over Greater Beckley Christian (77-37) on Friday and the Hampshire Trojans on Saturday evening.

With college football on hold for a few weeks and college basketball just getting heated up, there was an entertaining sports event at the Spartan Gym in Fairlea on Saturday night, December 12, when the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans defeated the Saint Albans Red Dragons 60-54 in a hard fought contest.
