Spartans Downed By Number Two University

The Greenbrier East Spartan boy's basketball team picked up their first win of the seaon in their opening game of the Jerry Bradley Memorial Christmas Tournament on Friday, December 29, when Nathan Lemons drilled a 3-pointer with three seconds left, but unfortunately that momentum did not carry over into Saturday night when they lost to the Class AAA's second ranked team, the University Hawks, by a score of 72-41.

To defeat the Hawks, who came into the game 6-0 after a 102-27 win over Wayne, the Spartans needed to deal with their relentless, WVU-style full court pressure. University (7-0) had scored over 10 points in a game three times already this season.

Lady Spartans Win Jerry Bradley Championship

The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans are quietly having yet another stellar basketball season so far in 2017-18.

The Spartans head into the new calnedar year undefeated at 8-0 and are improving each and every game.

Jerry Bradley Memorial Tournament Set

Area basketball fans wanting a break from the holiday rush and pre-New Year celebrations can make their way to the Greenbrier East Spartan gymnasium this weekend for the annual Jerry Bradley Memorial Christmas Tournament.

The tourney is played to honor the late Jerry Bradley, a former East Spartan coach and athletic director.

Spartan Basketball Team Comes Up Short In Low-Scoring Affair

The Greenbrier East Spartans hit the road for the first time this year after two thrilling, but heartbreaking losses at home to open the season.

Unfortunately for the Spartans, their first road trip to Graham, VA, did not yield any better results as they suffered a 51-36 loss in what was a low scoring, highly defensive contest.

Big Third Quarter Leads To East Loss

The stands were full, the intensity was high, and the long-time rivalry was back when the Greenbrier East Spartans (0-2) hosted the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles (1-0) on Friday, December 15.

The Eagles, who have former legendary head coach Dave Barksdale back on the sidelines as an assistant, won the first of two season matchups 78-64.

Spartans Basketball Team Loses Opener In Double Heartbreaking Fashion

Bimbo Coles made his Greenbrier East Spartan coaching debut on Friday, December 8, when East hosted the Hurricane Redskins in front of a packed house at the Spartan gym in Fairlea.

Following an emotional tribute and moment of silence prior to tipoff for long-time fan Winfred Baker, who passed away last Saturday night, the Spartans suffered heartbreak on the court after relinquishing a 21-point lead and falling 77-75.

Lady Spartans Cruise To Season Opening Win

The Class AAA 6th ranked Greenbrier East Lady Spartans (1-0) opened its 2017-18 campaign on Tuesday night, November 28, against the Independence Lady Patriots (0-1) at the Spartan gym in Fairlea.

The Lady Spartans should get extra special treatment this year as head coach and West Virginia Governor Jim Justice stepped down as the boys' coach to focus solely on the girls.

Greenbrier East High School Spartans Football Season Comes To Much Needed End

The Greenbrier East Spartans made the trek toward Huntington on the evening of Friday, November 3, to take on the powerful Spring Valley Timeberwovles (8-2).

East players and coaches knew an upset was unlikely as the Spartans took 29 total players on the trip, where Spring Valley has a handful of Division 1 recruits on their roster.

Lady Spartans' Soccer Coach Hudnall Believes GE Team Is 'All In To Win' State Tournament

While driving around Lewisburg, fans may notice restaurants and businesses showing support for the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans on their signs along the road.

That's because East is traveling to Beckley today, Friday, November 3, to take on the Cabell Midland Knights in the first round of the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission Class AAA State Soccer Tournament.
