Lady Spartans Softball Riding A Seven Game Winning Streak

The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans softball team is rolling right through their midseason schedule. After two consecutive losses to Brevard, NC, and Brecksville-Broadview Heights, OH, the Spartans have ripped off seven straight wins and are doing it in every phase of the game.

Hed Coach Aaron Ambler has his girls playing at an extremely high level including two victories over Ripley in a double header back on April 13. It was the Spartans' first ever wins over the Vikings since the two began playing.

East Baseball Gets Big Win Over Shady Spring

After a pair of 3-2 losses to Washington and Raipley that put their record at 5-7, the Greenbrier East Spartans (6-7) rebounded in a big way with an offensive 17-9 victory over the Shady Spring Tigers on Tuesday, April 17.

David Ickes picked up the win on the pitching mound even though he did not have his best day. he pitched five innings, gave up seven hits and seen runs. He also struck out one and walked four.

Greenbrier East Spartan Baseball Off To 0-2 Start

Even though the snow has fallen with a whole bunch more expected this weekend, it is still baseball season for the Greenbrier East Spartans.

The young Spartans have gotten off to a slow start after a season opening 13-2 loss to Alleghany, VA, followed by a tough 5-3 defeat at the hands of the George Washington Patriots.

Greenbrier East's McClure Scores 35, But Lady Spartans Fall To GW Patriots In Region 3 Co-Final

The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans' season has come to a gut wrenching close after they suffered a 90-81 loss to the George Washington Patriots in the Region 3 co-final.

The game was a back and forth contest that featured eight ties and 12 lead changes before the final buzzer sounded in favor of the Patriots.

Greenbrier East Lady Spartans Suffer Heartbreaking Loss To Beckley Eagles

The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans (20-4) had everything working for them. A home game, a large crowd, and a completely healthy team.

Unfortunately, that was not enough as the Beckley Flying Ealges (13-10) came to Spartan gym and stole a 67-63 victory right out of the grasp of the Lady Spartans. It was Beckley's second win in the building this month.

Greenbrier East Lady Spartans Beat Riverside In Sectional Game

The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans did not shoot very well against the Riverside Warriors on Wednesday, February 21, but they did enough in other areas to secure a 72-52 victory in the Region 3, Section 2, semifinal. 

The Spartans got 17 points from Taylor Dunbar, which included 10 in the opening quarter, as they pulled away late in the first half en route to the win.

Lady Spartans Take On Riverside In Sectionals

Outside of a two-game losing streak the first week of February, the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans (19-3) have been a model of consistency. 

East is set to take on the Riverside Lady Warriors tonight, Wednesday, February 21, at the Greenbrier East Gymnasium in the first round of the Region 3, Section 2, tournament.

Spartans Struggle In Fourth Quarter

The Greenbrier East Spartans played a pretty good game for the three-and-a-half quarters on Friday, February 9. But in the fourth, a late game scoring drought was the demise in their 81-67 loss to the Bluefield Beavers.

East came out of the gates with good energy and effort.

Greenbrier East Lady Spartans Continue Up And Down Week During Championship Play

Third-ranked Greenbrier East Lady Spartans have only lost three games this season. Unfortunately, their last two contests make up two of those losses.

East (15-3) started off on the right foot last weekend in the Big Atlantic Classic in Beckley when they defeated the Hedgesville Lady Eagles in dominating fashion. 76-30, but two nights later, in the championship game game, East suffered a tough 54-46 loss to the Morgantown Mohigans (12-4) who were ranked sixth.

Spartans Pick Up Second Win Of The Season

The Greenbrier East Spartans (2-10) lost to Bluefield on Tuesday, January 23, on the road, but their resilient performance in that game ,catapulted by Bailey Coles' career high 19 points, led to an even better performance on Wednesday night against the Covington Cougars.

The Cougars, who came in with a record of 12-3, left Greenbrier East 12-4 after the Spartans picked up a much needed 56-51 victory.
