Dorothy "Dottie" Hellems

Beloved wife, mother, and grand-mother, Dorothy "Dottie" Lou Hellems went to be with the Lord Monday, November 5, 2018.

She was born January 27, 1939, and was the only daughter of Onva and Dorothy Hill.

She graduated from Hinton High School in 1956, where she was a majorette in the Bobcat Marching Band. Dottie graduated from the Bluefield Beauty Academy and owned and operated her own beauty shop in Hinton, WV. She then went on to become the bookstore manager at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine for 20 years, retiring in 2002.

Dottie is survived by her beloved husband, Benny; they were married 54 years. They have three children and two sons-in-law, Benny Scott Hellems of Quinton, VA; Julie Roberts and her husband, Gary, of Lewisburg, WV; and Susan Lavenski and her husband, Terry, of Hurricane, WV. She was "Mimi" to five grandchildren, Haylee, Hayden, and Hunter Roberts, and Travis and Trenton Lavenski.

Dottie attended Fairlea Baptist Church and was a woman of faith. In keeping with her wishes, her body will be cremated, and there will be no service at this time.

McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.
