Hershall Eugene Godfrey, 40, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the Brian Center in Fincastle, VA.
Hershall was born December 5, 1977, in Ronceverte, WV, and was the son of Odessa Mae Godfrey and Eugene A. Gooch, both of White Sulphur Springs.
He was a member of New Vision Baptist Church, loved to cook and had been a chef at The Greenbrier Sporting Club, was on the dean's list his last year at White Sulphur Springs Junior High and was a captain of the basketball team at Greenbrier East High School during his days playing there.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Annie Godfrey and Jerome and Blanzetta Gooch; aunts, Bernice Stone and Barbara Kemp; and uncles, Ray Robinson and Norman Robinson.
Surviving Hershall are his mother, Odessa Godfrey and his father, Eugene Gooch, both of White Sulphur Springs; his children, Micaela Reed of Ronceverte and Kylee Godfrey and Braylen Godfrey, both of White Sulphur Springs; half-sisters, Mary Elizabeth Beverly and Michelle Cooley; adopted sister, Akiva Martin; God- brother Stevie Damon; four brothers in Detroit, MI; nephews, André and Brandon Tolliver; aunts and uncles, Lloyd and Kathleen Robertson, Shirley Fowler, Catherine Cook, Margaret Taylor, Charlotte Gooch, Steward Godfrey, Frank Godfrey, Timothy Godfrey, Gillie Godfrey, Ellen Beverly, Charles Gooch, Robert Gooch, Dreama Cluver, Tonita Stone, June Stone, Mike Stone, Sharon Stone, Wilbur Stone and Velzette Stone; cousins, Edna Gooch, Jasmine Sowell, Isaiah Godfrey, Chasity Crawford, Razhel Godfrey, Dominque Godfrey, Malcom Beverly, London Godfrey, Kizzy Damon, Natasha Mitchell, Tia Mattox, Camilla Aktinson and Alice Beverly; and a slew of other family members.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at 12 p.m. at the White Sulphur Springs Civic Center with Pastor Kathy Holland, the Rev. Clayton Howard, and Elder DeLawrence Godfrey officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.
The family will receive their friends from 11 a.m. until time of services at the Civic Center, or anytime prior at the home of his mother, Odessa Godfrey, 417 Ingleside Ave., White Sulphur Springs.
