The West Virginia Mountaineers basketball team [15-1] have taken the No. 2 spot in the 351 schools playing in the Division I men's basketball conferences, according to the National Collegiate Athletic Association as of Friday, January 12. In addition, the Big 12 Conference, a collegiate athletic conference, currently has the Mountaineers ranked as No. 1 in their standings, with an in conference record of 4-0.
"It's a great time to be a Mountaineer basketball fan," said Jeff Campbell, sports director and account executive at Radio Greenbrier and current member of the West Virginia House of Delegates. "[Taking] the No. 2 spot, with the possibility of No. 1 is amazing. The notoriety it brings to the state, the college, it's a win-win for everybody."
