The Mountain Valley Pipeline LLC has filed a lawsuit in the Southern District of West Virginia against the owners of properties across southeastern West Virginia to condemn property interests needed to construct the pipeline.
The lawsuit aims to facilitate the construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP), a proposed interstate natural gas pipeline that stretches 303 miles from Wetzel County, WV, to Pittsylvania County, VA. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) determined that the MVP is in the public interest. In doing so, FERC gave MVP "the right to acquire the necessary property interests ... to construct, operate, and maintain the MVP Project," through the Natural Gas Act.
